What video file formats does the Playstation 3 accept?

Q. As far as I can tell, the Playstation 3 is very limited in its format support. I am wondering what are the exact specs needed to be able to play videos off of a USB or straight from the console. Conversion will be needed, are there any converters that do a good job?

A. PlayStation 3 supports the playback of PS3 video file formats like MPEG-1, MPEG-2 (PS,TS), H.264/MEPG-4 AVC, MPEG-4 SP.
To convert videos to PS3 video, you can use E.M. HD Video Converter, it can convert high definition videos for Playstation 3 perfectly.
